Customer Corner: Do your staff members know what information the Patient & Visitor Guide contains?

January 3rd, 2012 by gcckc

Do your staff members know what information the Patient & Visitor Guide contains?

A great way to increase usage of your Patient & Visitor Guides is to ensure staff members are using them as a reference for patients. Keep copies of the guide at admitting desks and introduce the patient to the guide. Tell them where to locate the copy in the room and provide a brief verbal summary of the contents. Have the nurses use the guide as a reference for patients when they are asked questions. This will empower patients to review the guide for answers to other questions they may have. This all begins with ensuring that your staff members know what information is in the Guide to Guest Services. Keep a copy of the guide at each nursing station and encourage staff members to review the book from time to time. Some facilities make this fun and interactive by developing a Patient & Visitor Guidebook Quiz that staff members can answer, using the guides as a reference.
