One of the most common themes that arise when we are speaking to school districts working on putting the Guide to Emergency Preparedness™ in place is a common concern that the information they have previously distributed is buried in desk drawers throughout the buildings. Desk drawers or personal briefcases are a challenging place to store Emergency Preparedness information, as it will not be easily accessible to whoever is in the room when an emergency arises. It may not be accessible at all!
Many school districts opt to place guides in each room as opposed to assigning them to a particular staff member. Having a guide in a common location in each room ensures that whoever is in the room has quick access to what they need. Common locations include on the side of a filing cabinet, on the inside of a cabinet door, on the wall, or mounted underneath the teacher’s desk.
Most schools find the 9”x7” polyboard version of the guide to be best suited for use in the classroom. When we produce these they can be made with a tab across the top edge with a hole for hanging from a hook. We can then offer you an easy-to-remove adhesive backed hook that is suitable for hanging on almost all surfaces.
